Surprising, stunning, shocking, insulting, outrageous… I could go on.

If anyone can help me understand why Obama deserves this accolade, I’d be really happy.

Thanks, Joe, for your comment. I know quite a few people feel the same way as you do. I’m obviously not on the committee, and it seems that the granting of the prize, at least to some degree, had to do both with repudiating the foreign policy of the Bush years and as a nudge to help make Obama’s sweeping vision come true. This has happened before with the Nobel Prize-Willy Brandt and the pair of John Hume and David Trimble come to mind, and we’ll see what happens.

Let me know what you think, and thanks again!

I can’t help but feel this is simply more evidence of America’s hero worship-tinged love affair with Obama. Now, don’t mark me down as a Republican — I voted for Obama; I believe he is a motivated, well-meaning, intelligent and capable leader. But he’s been in office less than a year. We’ve barely had time to see how his sweeping propositions will shake out. To me, it just feels like this is too much too soon.
