After retrieving a couple of emails from my spam folder, I’ve connected with Brendan Koerner, author of the entertaining and informative Now the Hell Will Start: One Soldier’s Flight From the Greatest Manhunt of World War II.
We’ll be talking about his work tomorrow night.
Suggested questions are welcome.

the book was a very interesting and informative read. however, i felt that brendan delved too much into the social and political backdrop of the times to provide the context within which perry’s story unfolds. i felt that at some points, the story of perry was being used as the vehicle to speak about those times rather than being the focus of the book itself.
Thanks, Mark, for your comment. I hear you about the balance between the story, the character and the social times not working as smoothly as it could have at times. I will say from talking with Brendan, and I still have to get that interview online, that he felt a genuine fascination with all aspects of the story, including Perry himself. This may not mean that he pulled the storytelling and context providing optimally at all times, and I do feel that I can vouch for the sincerity of his interest in Perry the man.
I look forward to continuing the conversation. Do you blog? I’ve love to read more of your thoughts.
