I just read an article about the death of Jack Ross, Australia’s last World War I veteran, at the age of 110.
Music lovers would do well to listen to Eric Bogle’s version of Waltzing Matilda.
Readers could do a lot worse than checkin out Paul Fussell’s The Great War and Modern Memory, which analyzes the changes in language, the rise of irony and the erosion of belief in poets and writers during and after what was originally known as The War to End All Wars.
No mention of resources would be completing with including the lecture by my man Steve Cohen of Tufts University. Complete with before and after maps and equal doses of humor, information and poignant detail, Steve’s presentation about World War I, the Treaty of Versailles, and the rise of the Nazi party is a classic.
